The law fi rm approaches its internal company objectives with the same, committed fashion.

The Solution

Two powerful transtec CALLEO 342 servers each confi gured with two Quad-core Xeon Processors and 48 GB RAM replace the previous mail, application, database, backup and ERP servers completely. Together with two other transtec PROVIGO 630 storage units with 3 TB gross capacity (SAS) connected with Fibre Channel, they form a high-availability solution for the entire company IT at SONN & PARTNER.Suse Linux Enterprise Server with high-availability extension is used as the operating system. All data is mirrored synchronously between both storage systems in realtime using the DRBD data replication technology. A cluster manager detects any breakdowns with the heartbeat between the two servers thus ensuring high-availability functions such as automatic failover if a fault should arise.

Customer opinion

"We have taken an important step migrating all previous systems onto the new hardware. Our applications and data are more available now than ever before – in future, no department will come to a standstill because of a system breakdown. Virtualization has helped us to achieve a considerably better system distribution. Our maintenance and predicted energy costs are also set to be minimised",
explains IT manager Reinhard Beutl.

TetraTec Instruments

The Company

TetraTec Instruments develops flexible measurement systems for measuring the pressure, flow and temperature of gases. The SMB from Steinenbronn in the South West of Germany provides services in the field of calibration in its own laboratory as well as externally and employs 22 workers. The aim of the IT restructure was to increase server stability and service reliability as well as providing new resources for test environments faster. The implementation of a central and convenient system management concept cuts running costs.

The Solution

TetraTec opted for a virtualisation solution from transtec. Following intensive consultation meetings with transtec, a VMware active/passive system with a redundant, external iSCSI SAN storage system was installed at TetraTec Instruments.
With the „boot-from-SAN“ concept, the servers boot the operating system by iSCSI host bus adapter directly from the central storage system. The total costs of ownership could be reduced by configuring the VMware Servers without hard drives and RAID controller. To increase availability, a second VMware ESX virtualisation server was installed. In the event of a hardware problem on the main server, this second server can manually start the ESX installation via the „boot-from-SAN“ in no time.

Customer opinion

“To fully utilise the benefits of virtualisation, system administrators must have specific understanding. transtec convinced us of their expertise especially due to the consultation and services they provided. There is always a contact person ready to deal with any problems. Due to the successful collaboration with transtec, TetraTec has already purchased more workstation PCs from transtec and we will work with transtec again in the future.“
Ullrich von Bassewitz, software engineer and IT manager at TetraTec.

ISG

The Company

The ISG Sanitär-Handelsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG was founded as a syndicate of sanitary wholesalers in 1956 and has continued to grow since then. The HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) market association provides a synergy platform for all its partners to enable better purchasing conditions, wider selling markets and thus a stronger competitive position for every single member. Since 2006, the ISG also provides the central processing service with EDI clearing centre for other purchasing associations.

The Solution

The virtualisation solution from transtec replaces all the 35 previously used servers. Considerably less hardware not only means less administration and maintenance but also the total energy costs have been drastically reduced. What‘s more, virtualisation units can be utilised far more effi ciently as CPU performance is only provided where it is really needed.
A total of three transtec CCV-V55002U virtualisation servers are connected with one transtec virtualisation storage bundle CCSVRISCSI with redundant iSCSI. Another four physical server cores complete the IT infrastructure solution.

Customer opinion

"Even during the planning stage, the excellent impression we gained of transtec during a road show was confi rmed. The transtec solution met all our requirements and we were fully satisfi ed. transtec made it clear that we should contact them if we had any questions about the offer. And they proved true to their word. We didn’t receive any calls inquiring how far we were with our decision. The company gave us time to come to a decision. A quality which seems to have gone astray with some of the competition from whom we received unnecessary and annoying follow-up calls."
Marco Hesse, IT and data services

The Company

The Merz company was founded in 1900 by Mr. Carl Merz in Hechingen, located in the North-West of Germany. It initially started life as a mechanical workshop offering services and repairs for SINGER sewing machines and bicycles. Shortly after the foundation Merz started building circular loop wheel machines. After the Second World War Merz started to produce double-cylinder circular knitting machines for the production of socks. The very first Merz double-cylinder circular knitting machine was delivered in 1948. At the beginning of the fifties a circular knitting machine for the production of nylon stockings was developed. From 1970, the company increasingly specialized in the development and manufacturing of circular knitting machines for the production of medical stockings and compression articles and with 75 employees is today the leader in this market segment worldwide.

The Solution

In advance of planning, transtec carried out a comprehensive analysis of its existing IT environment and developed strategies for a future-oriented IT infrastructure. transtec was committed to designing an IT system that combined easy management with the required functions and thus developed the following concept:

  • Application of a redundant storage-server system based on two OPEN-E file servers. To increase system stability, a server-storage system was installed in each separate server room to ensure replication and fast restore.
  • For server virtualisation under Citrix XEN, two transtec CALLEO 322 servers were shipped specially designed for consolidation and virtualisation solutions.

Customer opinion

"The virtual server environment allows test systems to be installed in a matter of no time without any difficulty as sufficient system performance and storage capacity are available. We would be pleased to work with transtec again in the future as the system specifications and deadlines promised were always kept."
IT manager Reiner Spiegel at Merz
