Server virtualisation

The use of virtual machines is currently much hyped. And not without good reason, for a number of virtual servers can be modelled on a single physical hardware platform.

The advantages are clear.

The creation of test environments

Integrating software updates, new operating systems or new applications into the productive system classically requires the construction of hardware to test it for compatibility and function.

Virtualisation allows a test environment to be built, isolated from the productive system on existing hardware. Once the test has been successfully concluded, the updates or applications can simply be migrated into the productive system.

Lowering of IT costs

In computer centres today, different services are allocated to different servers. These servers usually have a low utilisation of 5% to 15%. By virtualisation, this utilisation can be increased many times over. Fewer servers are needed, meaning the administration of fewer servers and along with this the energy consumption also falls with every server saved.

Greater flexibility

If new services need to be provided, the right environments with the right hardware need to be provided for them. By managing a virtual infrastructure, these resources can be provided immediately, and adapted to suit the application.

Our service

Not every server is suitable for virtualisation, and hence an analysis of the actual server load is essential to be able to determine the right sizing. transtec runs a virtualisation project at the start of sizing through to the complete implementation in your system and the training of your administrators.

VMware Virtual Infrastructure

VMware Virtual Infrastructure
VMware Infrastructure 3 is the next generation in leading infrastructure virtualisation software. Several operating systems and their applications run by partitioning the physical operating media, such as CPU, storage and network, independently of each other in parallel in virtual machines. The suite contains the complete virtualisation, management and other automation and optimisation tools.

Features:
  • Increase in the utilisation rates of x86 servers from the 5-15% hitherto to 60-80%
  • Provision times for new applications fall from days to a matter of seconds
  • Reaction times to requests for modifications are just minutes
  • Downtime-free hardware maintenance, without the need to wait for maintenance windows

XenSource XenEnterprise

XenSource XenEnterprise
XenEnterprise v4 is a powerful virtualisation platform for the flexible aggregation of computer and storage resources in the corporate environment and offers a dynamic virtualisation environment. Based on the Xen Hypervisor, XenEnterprise offers an open, secure and supported solution for server virtualisation.

Features:
  • Easy to install and set up
  • Powerful performance development for Windows and Linux host systems
  • Native 64-bit Xen Hypervisor for best scalability and business critical applications
  • Migration during operation with XenMotion within resource pools
  • Management via a number of servers and a number of resource pools via the XenCenter administrator console
  • Quality-of-service support by direct control via CPU, hard disk and network resources
