Controllers & adapters
Data security is a vital aspect of RAID and data needs to be stored redundantly on multiple hard disk drives. To ensure this, PCs, workstations and servers have to have a RAID controller equipped with integrated management functions. The RAID controller organises hard disk drive management in systems where fast and reliable data storage and access are required. By executing compute-intensive RAID operations, RAID controllers can relieve the server's central processor .
HBAs (Host Bus Adapter) are interface cards that are used to connect external subsystems to a PC, workstation or server. There is usually no or very limited RAID capability in the host bus adapter.
