Installation
The core of the ease of installation and automation is the PROVIGO Disk Manager software. With this sophisticated tool you get your SAN up and running with just a few mouseclicks.

Start the PROVIGO Disk Manager Simply doubleclick on the desktop icon. Upon start, the menu displays your local server volumes and their current disk utilization. Select a local volume. In the left bar you see possible actions like creation of a new SAN volume or data migration. |
|

Start Data Migration Klick on „Migrate Disk“ and select the desired redundancy (RAID) level. The data are now being migrated to the SAN without disruption to your applications or users. The process is completely transparent. Even the local volume designation is being transfered. |

Your SAN is now operational Upon completion of the data migration, the SAN volume has been expanded automatically. Dynamic (Thin) Provisioning maintains an optimal, user-definable disk utilization and reduces the administrative burden. Congratulations. Your SAN is now up and running, your data has been migrated. |

Over 90 percent of all small- to mid-sized organisations use Windows Server as dominating operating system. The PROVIGO 300 IP Storage series is hence optimized for Windows, but also compatible with Linux (RedHat/SuSE), Mac OS-X and Novell NetWare.
The intuitive, highly automated PROVIGO Disk Manager is only available for Windows though. For all other platforms the PV300 disk array offers a classic web-based management GUI for administation.

10 Things You'll Never Have to Do Again
| 1 | Track iQNs and WWNs. | |
| 2 | See a "Disk Full" message. | |
| 3 | Repeatedly email employees that "the server will be down" (and hear the groans). | |
| 4 | Browse through hundreds of manual pages to manage your storage. | |
| 5 | Open 3 applications and execute 20 steps to set up a new storage disk. | |
| 6 | Open 3 different interfaces to store, share, manage and protect your data. | |
| 7 | Listen to staff complain about "managing disk space". | |
| 8 | Constantly monitor storage disk utilization and manually add space. | |
| 9 | Learn yet another new set of technology. | |
| 10 | Schedule another time consuming training session for your overworked staff. | |
Die PROVIGO 300 IP Storage series facilitates your day-to-day work through its comfort functions and highly automation, whether managing the company's IT is your "secondary" task or you are a well-versed full-time system administration. TechTalk
The system architecture of the PROVIGO 300 IP Storage is based upon:
- Hardware - transtec Storage Servers with Intel x86 processors
- StorMagic Storage OS - a Linux-based iSCSI target on flash DOM
- Disk Manager Software - Windows management and automation software
- Web GUI - administration for Linux, Mac OS-X and Novell NetWare
The combination of the StorMagic Storage OS and the PROVIGO Disk Manager software installed on the Windows host servers brings about the automation of many routine tasks of storage and SAN administration.
The PROVIGO 300 IP Storage is also suited for Linux, Mac and Netware host servers. However, for those platforms it lacks the automation routines, what remains is a standard iSCSI RAID. In return the PV300 series licenses only the number of connected Windows servers, on other platforms it offers unlimited support at no charge.
The technical highlights / comfort functions of the PROVIGO 300 series are:
- Automated SAN mapping (iQN management, LUN masking)
- One-Step-Provisioning. Volumes are created with 2-3 mouseclicks and are immediately available to the server. All required steps such as creation and partitioning of RAID sets, LUN management, iQN mapping, handshake iSCSI login, OS disk management, formatting, etc are automated.
- Integration with RAID API. Configuration and administration of the embedded PCI RAID controller is fully automated through seamless integration with the vendor APIs.
- Automated, non-disruptive data migration offers migration of local server volumes (but system partition) into the SAN, as well as migration between PV300 disk arrays. Volume designations are being transfered, too. The process is entirely transparent and non-disruptive to all applications and users.
- Dynamic Provisioning automates capacity allocation & management. Volumes are dynamically expanded on demand, entirely without disruption. All parameters are user-definable. You can thus automatically maintain an optimal 80-90% disk utilization.
- MPIO Load Balancing. The PROVIGO 300 detects automatically if you enabled Microsoft MPIO load balancing on your host servers and auto-configures its own host ports accordingly. However, the PROVIGO Disk Manager software does not by default enable load balancing upon installation on the hosts. This has to be done manually through the MS iSCSI initiator advanced settings.
- Snapshots. Up to 256 copy-on-write snapshots are optionally supported. The included VSS provider ensures the consistency of snapshots taken from Microsoft Exchange/SQL Server and other VSS-compatible applications.
- Central & Remote Management. The PROVIGO Disk Manager software allows you to manage your SAN storage for all servers centrally from any location in the network. Optionally a remote management module is available for organisation with distributed locations, system houses or service providers.
