A new dimension of storage density
Almost half a Petabyte in a single 41U cabinet. This opens up new vistas. Furthermore you safe expensive floor space in the data center and over 25 percent on your power bill compared to conventional 2U-4U RAID subsystems. Such storage capacities require naturally an active cooling system in the 19" cabinet. For example, by means of a 1U fan module in the upper area of the rack. There are, however, no further requirements thanks to the optimised air flow within the RAID itself. The sophisticated, tool-less toploader mechanics, with hotswap carriers and special heavy-duty rails, prove helpful during installation in the cabinet.
Availability˛
Where so many data are gathered in one location, security against system downtimes is a primary concern. Hence high availability is a central aspect of the PROVIGO 550 SUMO SATA RAID. The system is safeguarded not only with redundant active/active controllers, RAID-6 support or triple redundant ventilation and power. You can also generate up to 192 point-in-time, copy-on-write snapshots of your data and restore previous data sets in a matter of minutes. The included Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) provider integrates the storage system seamlessly with Microsoft Exchange and SQL databases.
Areas of Application
A wealth of interesting applications benefit notably from the storage density, cost efficiency and high availability of the PROVIGO 550 SUMO SATA RAID.
Video applications: VOD, IP-TV, film post production, broadcast news editing, commercial production
Surveillance: CCTV recording, company, public and national security
Health services: Digital x-ray pictures, CAT/MRI/PET scans
NAS filesharing: Repository for scientific or business data, storage attached to NAS heads or gateways
Archival/Backup: Compliance archive data (Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPPA Act), email archives, target media for B2D, snapshots or asynchronous replication jobs in a SAN
Performance at a glance
The PROVIGO 550 SUMO SATA RAID performance is good and tops out around 800 MB/s for sequential streaming. A comfortable performance wizard in the management GUI ensures the RAID to be optimal configured for your application. The RAIDView Path Manager distributes I/O access through a Round-Robin algorithm dynamically between all available data paths. The use of RAID-6 for added security in the event of multiple hard drive failures reduces the performance somewhat.
