transtec hamserver U450: SPARC Power with Solaris and Linux

Banbury/Tübingen, 30th June 2000.
transtec AG is launching two new SPARC servers: the hamserver U450EW and the corresponding rackmount version, hamserver U450ES. With these compact high-end servers the business-to-business (B2B) system manufacturer with direct sales is rounding up its portfolio in the SPARC environment.

The new hamservers U450 are ideally suited for use as enterprise servers, database servers or web servers in the ISP (Internet Service Provider) environment.

The highlights of this series are the numerous hard disk slots and redundant power supply units. The hamserver U450EW has ten hot swap slots at the front and two at the rear (eight slots at the front in the hamserver U450ES rackmount version). Five (four) redundant power supply units come with the basic configuration, as well as 512 MB main memory, an 18.4 GB hard disk, a Dual Ultra Wide SCSI controller, two serial ports, a parallel port and a 10/100BASE-T interface. Both servers support two 66 MHz 64 bit PCI slots and four 33 MHz / 64-bit PCI slots.

The hamservers U450 use a SPARC quad processor architecture with a maximum processor clock frequency of 450 MHz and 4 MB cache memory. The main memory can be expanded to up to 4 GB.

As with all transtec SPARC computers the new hamserver U450 can also be configured to meet individual customer requirements. Solaris 7 (Server version) is included as the standard operating system. As an option RedHat Linux is also available.

Prices of the basic configuration:

hamserver U450ES: DM 37,800 (EUR 19,326.83) incl. VAT.
hamserver U450EW: DM 39,800 (EUR 20,349.42) incl. VAT.
