transtec's 1300 AMD Business Workstation equipped with the AMD Athlon XP processorBanbury/Tübingen, 24th October 2001.
The transtec 1300 AMD Business Workstation, equipped with AMD's Athlon XP processor, has the fastest-beating heart in the desktop computer world presently available. An innovative chip-architecture allows the processor to execute more instructions per clock cycle than conventional CPUs and achieves performance far exceeding that of other CPUs with the same clock speed. This performance edge will be especially appreciated by users who work with CPU-intensive applications such as CAD/CAM, graphics video processing programs and 3D simulation.
The Tübingen system provider transtec AG will equip its most powerful single-processor workstation with AMD Athlon XP processor in the future. "Because of its scalability and reliability our 1300 AMD Business Workstation is ideal for CPU-intensive applications," said Pierre Criqui, head of the strategic business area Microsoft®® and Unix/Linux at transtec AG. He continued, "The new Athlon XP processor leads to an overall increase in system performance which benefits above all applications such as 3D graphics, multimedia, video and streaming." However the new CPUs also provide significantly improved performance over that of existing processors with conventional applications such as Microsoft® Office.
AMD's so-called Quantispeed architecture, which allows the CPU to execute more instructions per clock cycle, contributes significantly to the Athlon XP processor''s performance edge. According to AMD, the XP (eXtra Performance) processor has a twenty-five-percent performance advantage over conventional CPUs running at the same clock speed and at the same time uses significantly less power than previous Athlon processors. The transtec 1300 AMD Business-Workstation is available with 1500+, 1600+ and 1800+ models of the AMD Athlon XP processor family. Since the system is constructed on a build-to-order process (BTO), the components may be selected and combined to suit the needs of the customer.
A typical system uses an AMD Athlon XP 1500+ processor with a 266 Megahertz frontside-bus for fast communication with the CPU. The basic configuration comes equipped with 256 Megabytes of fast DDR-SDRAM main memory, expandable to 1.5 Gigabytes, and a Seagate Ultra ATA/100 hard drive with a capacity of 40 Gigabytes. Additional features are an nVIDIA, 32 Megabyte AGP graphics card, a 16-speed ATAPI DVD-ROM drive and onboard audio. A transtec 10/100BASE-T Fast Ethernet adapter provides convenient access to the network. All of this is packaged in a space-saving midi-tower case. Included in delivery are a Cherry keyboard and a transtec wheel mouse. As operating systems one has the choice of Microsoft® Windows 2000 Professional or Microsoft® Windows XP Professional. The operating system is preinstalled and a recovery CD-ROM is included in delivery. The workstation is also available as a Linux version under the name "transtec 1200 AMD Business-Workstation."
The transtec 1300 AMD Business Workstation is available as of now with the AMD Athlon XP processor. The price, with the configuration described above and an Athlon XP 1500+ processor, is 1148 Euro (2245.19 Mark). VAT included. The price for other configurations will vary.
