RAID goes LINUX: Tübingen-based transtec AG presents new iSCSI storage architecture

Tübingen, 13 December 2005.
The PROVIGO 1100 iSCSI/FC RAID system presented at this year’s LinuxWorld is transtec’s first iSCSI-based RAID entry. Unlike conventional RAID architectures based on proprietary RAID controllers and embedded Intel XScale or IBM RISC processors, the transtec PROVIGO 1100 RAID System utilises open x86 architecture running on a Linux kernel. With hot-swappable, redundant controllers and automatic failover and load sharing, PROVIGO systems provide all of the advantages of conventional RAID plus easy software porting.

transtec AG celebrated its silver anniversary last week at the Centre for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe with a gala that included talks by leading figures in the IT world. Besides offering a retrospective of transtec‘s development the event provided the opportunity of speculating as to what the future will bring, both for transtec and the IT branch.

It was the year in which Microsoft, then a fledgling company, was busy working on the first version of MS-DOS, which would become the operating system of the first IBM PC in 1981. It was also the year in which the Apple IPO was floated. Future giants like Dell were about to be founded. Euphoria was in the air, especially in the Silicon Valley.

Alain Ledoux took responsibility of transtec’s French subsidiary on 22 July. Ledoux, thirty-seven and with a masters in business administration, replaces Sabine Mille, who was interim manager in France and who will remain in charge of sales there.

transtec Annual Financial Statements: One-Off Effects Burden Result
Liquidity stabilised / Investments in product innovations and quality assurance

Tuebingen, 21 April 2005.
At the press conference on financial statements, the Tuebingen-based IT system manufacturer presented its annual report for financial year 2004. The report showed that one-off effects induced by restructuring burdened the earnings before interest and tax (EBIT), which declined from EUR 0.7 million in the previous year to minus EUR 8.7 million. This was mainly attributable to the expenses for the reconcilement of interests associated with the restructuring measures initiated in mid 2004 and non-scheduled goodwill depreciation.
